Defib course

December 12th, 2006

As discussed, you can’t get your bronze medallions from the club until you’ve done a defib course. We’ve arranged one for you on Tuesday 19th December 7 - 9pm. This is a very simple course - presentation, practical application and qualification in a couple of hours - but, as you know from the chain of survival, an essential part of first aid for someone needing CPR.

Workbooks due in on Wednesday

November 20th, 2006

Please bring your COMPLETED workbooks in for collection and final signing on Wednesday. If you do not have a completed workbook, you cannot sit your Part A (dry) exam.

Board training tomorrow

November 11th, 2006

Some of you are doing your morning patrol tomorrow and I’ve said I’ll do a bit of revision on board rescues if you would like. Any of you are welcome to come down. I’m not sure what time yet but you can text me before about 9 a.m. on 0415 152 597.

Instructional videos

If only life were like TV… three cycles (of old-school 2-person CPR) and she’s up:

But here’s a video of a real rescue and successful CPR on a US beach.

Radios and signals

November 9th, 2006

We covered signals last night and we won’t cover them again: but they’re easy if you follow the pictures in the book.

We will cover radios once: next Wednesday. If you miss the session, you must prevail on a nice instructor to make extra time to catch you up before the exam on 29 November. You should do this in plenty of time because we have to arrange to get the radios unlocked to demonstrate.

Swim this afternoon

November 9th, 2006

The surf’s pretty exciting at North Steyne at the moment so I’ll be swimming again this afternoon, if any of you are free and fancy a workout. Excellent practice for the r-s-r.

Sizes and friends

November 9th, 2006

We need your preferred uniform sizes (no guarantees you’ll get what you ask for, though!) at the weekend so please let us know.

Also, you will all be divided between the club’s 12 patrols when you have your bronze. Please let us know:

  • The patrol number you want to be on, if you have a preference (my patrol’s pretty crash hot for a start ;) )

  • If you want to be on the same patrol as someone else from the squad
  • If you do not want to be on the same patrol as a particular individual

This information is confidential of course.

Then there were four

November 9th, 2006

Anna made her first appearance in In Latte Veritas this morning, bringing the number of podcasting bronzies to four in this episode. We discussed whether we can blame our parents for who we’ve become — our failings and insecurities.
