On the Burqa podcast, interesting listening though as someone who lives
in a predominantly Muslim neighbourhood (there are five mosques here and
many women in burqas), I have to disagree that it should be taken off
when you move to a western country. In many cases, the modesty becomes
ingrained. Just as most people would fell weird going to work with no
shirt on, many women feel half-dressed when they have lived in a culture
that sets that standard. To require someone to go without it would be
akin to requiring that women go topless when visiting villages where
that is generally the rule. And as for body language, I find that while
much of the body is covered, much can be expressed with the eyes and
hands which are both uncovered in almost all cases. I talk about this a
bit more in an entry I wrote a few weeks back here, if you’re

Leave it to me to save my fact checking until after posting that. The neighbourhood only has a single mosque though there are several others nearby. However, looking at the census data, about 40% of my neighbours are muslim. Sorry for the slightly misleading post earlier.
