We are a swimming group

We are primarily a swimming group, meeting at 7 a.m. on weekdays at North Steyne in Manly (a Sydney suburb). Recently we went to the south of NSW, where the waters are particularly exciting. Terry and Evan decided on a swim that Shane and Steven didn’t fancy. While Shane played air traffic controller, Steven filmed on his mobile phone.

Is it reasonable to ask people to sponsor you to do something fun or “useless” just because it’s “for charity”?
